Situated in the northeast part of Hunan Province,Yueyang has jurisdiction over four counties,two cities of county level and four administrative districts.It covers a total area of 15000 square kilometers with a population of 5.3 million including an urban area of 824 square kilometers with 900000 dwellers.It is a famous historic culture city, excellent tourism city in China and the only port city along the Yangtze River in Hunan Province.

　　Yueyang has advantageous transportation conditions.It is the many-sided intersection of the Yangtze River,the Dongting Lake,Beijing-Guangzhou railway,No.107 state highway, Beijing-Zhuhai expressway and Wuhan-Guangzhou express railway which is going to build. Yueyang is another "gold cross" similar to Wuhan.

　　Yueyang has rich natural resources. There are four counties (or cities at county level) to rank in one hundred strongest counties in China in production of grains, cotton and pigs with rich rare metal and nonmetal resources. Its rich water resource is especially suitable for developing the projects, which need a lot of water and a large amount of transportation for production.

　　Yueyang has profound cultural inside information. Yueyang Tower is the precious historic cultural relic and the only tower at the former address with original appearance among three most famous towers in southern China. "Enjoy ourselves after all of the Chinese people have led a relatively comfortable life." is the soul of Yueyang culture. Moreover, Yueyang is the birthplace of Chinese dragon boat culture with a lot of scenery spots and cultural key points of interest, such as Junshan Islet, Quzi Temple, Zhangguying building complex built in Ming dynasty, and etc.

Located in the center of cities' economic circle of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces,Yueyang is the inevitable transfer place for all goods in Hunan province exported to foreign countries via the Yangtze River, and for a lot of people and goods from vast area of middle-upper reaches of the Yangtze River to south area via Beijing-Guangzhou railway.Along with the Dongting Lake bridge's operation, an important channel to east area of Sichuan province and west area of Hubei province has been opened for guests and businessmen at home and abroad to set up their production bases and distribution centers here in Yueyang city.

　　Since China's reform and opening to the outside world, Yueyang economy is developing rapidly. In 2002, the gross domestic product value was up to RMB 45200 million yuan and the main economic index ranked at the second place in Hunan province just next to the provincial capital city of Changsha.
